Obama Children's Hospital

Obama Children's Hospital is a specialised paediatric facility located within the environs of JOOTRH. Founded by the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) in 2007 and launched by former President of the United States Barack Obama — who permitted the hospital to carry his name — the facility has grown into a home of hope for young souls.

The hospital has a total of seven doctors, including three paediatricians, supported by dedicated nurses and led by paediatrician Dr. Josephine Ojigo, with Ms. Rose Kombe serving as Head Nurse.

Being a referral hospital, Obama Children's Hospital receives patients from across the Nyanza and Western regions — Kisumu, Busia, Kakamega, Bungoma and Homa Bay. The facility, with a bed capacity of 80, admits roughly seventy to a hundred patients weekly. Children under five years receive free services, with only Ksh 20 registration, while those above five pay Ksh 50 registration and a Ksh 100 lab fee.

The facility has a high-dependency unit for conditions such as asthma and a six-bed barrier room for children on cancer treatment, where patients are served a special high-protein diet. Ongoing upgrades are turning the facility into a fully-fledged paediatric centre of excellence with its own laboratory, emergency department and paediatric oncology wing.
